A big thank you to Dr Elizabeth McSharry of The Family Care Practice Roscommon for sponsoring our U19 League. Family Care is a modern, progressive GP practice in the heart of Roscommon town, F42 YY48

Dr Elizabeth Sweeney McSharry opened the surgery in 2016. Family Care offers all the usual general practice and family medicine services you would expect from a modern Doctor’s Surgery. Elizabeth has been a huge supporter of Roscommon LGFA and we are delighted to have her onboard as a sponsor. 👏🏻

SANDRA SHANAGHER MAKES HISTORY A PE and Math’s SANDRA SHANAGHER MAKES HISTORY

A PE and Math’s teacher by profession, Sandra is married to Padraig and is the proud mother of four children, Conor, Niamh, Niall, and Aisling. An enthusiastic sportswoman, Sandra has participated in a wide range of activities including Gaelic football, basket- ball, hockey, badminton, soccer, volleyball, and water polo throughout her school and college years and beyond.

Her passion for refereeing has always been strong, culminating in her dissertation on the subject, which compared refereeing in Gaelic football and basketball. Since beginning her refereeing journey in ladies football in 2009, she became a qualified basketball referee in 2013. Sandra has officiated numerous underage finals and made her debut in adult finals in 2014, refereeing the Junior final.

She continued to make her mark by officiating the Intermediate final in 2015 and the Junior final in 2016. A highlight of her career came in 2017 when she became the first female referee in Roscommon to lead an Intermediate final with an all-female officiating team. Additionally, she officiated in the Aisling McGing National U21 competition in 2016 and frequently can be seen running the line at inter-county matches.

Sandra is deeply committed to ladies football, serving as a player, coach, manager, club and county official. She established Kilbride Ladies in 2001 and currently serves as the Ladies Chairperson and PRO. Over the years, she has coached and managed numerous teams at both the club and county levels, and held various positions within the county board, including vice-chairperson / fixtures secretary (‘04-’10), registrar (‘15-’18), treasurer (‘19-’21) and assistant secretary (‘23).

When she’s not involved in sports, Sandra enjoys reading and baking.

Our Senior County Final marked a significant milestone as Sandra became the first female referee in Roscommon to officiate a senior championship final—an opportunity she was excited to embrace. This appointment was particularly meaningful as the LGFA marks its 50th anniversary this year.
