LADIES BEATEN IN FINAL:

St Barry’s Ladies 0-8 St Mary’s 2-8

It wasn’t to be for our Adult Ladies as they lost out in the Junior A Championship final to St Mary’s (Tulsk) after a hard fought game in Knockcroghery on Saturday. The final scoreline didn’t do the Barry’s girls justice, as they dictated the play for long periods without racking up the scores that their play deserved.

The Barry’s girls started well.  Scores were hard to come by in an awkward crosswind, but Emer Callaghan, Edel Beirne, and Lisa Murtagh scored good points from play, and we lead by 3 points after 24  minutes.  The game took a decisive turn though in the 25th minute, when Tulsk midfielder Dufficy burst through the centre of the defence and finished well to Net. An excellent long range point from Murtagh was a good response, but Tulsk caught a big break minutes later, when a speculative shot bounced off post into the arms of their wing back Feeney, who goaled from close range. Again, Barry’s responded well through a Grainne Gaynor point, leaving the halftime score Barry’s 0-5 St Mary’s 2-1

Tulsk started the second half well, scoring the first two points, but the Barry’s got on top, and pressed hard, racking up good scores from Callaghan and Murtagh, and an excellent individual effort from Aoife McLoughlin. The major turning point came though when a brilliant fisted effort from Callaghan rattled the cross bar, and the St Mary’s defence smothered the rebound to safety. It was to be our best chance, and in spite of pressing to the end, it just wasn’t to be despite a trojan effort.

St Barry’s; Rebecca Cox, Jane McGowan, Rita Hagan, Oonagh Farrell, Rhiannon Cox, Aoife Mcloughlin (0-1), Joanne Rogers, Emer Burke, Emer Wallace, Nadine Murphy, Lisa Murtagh(0-3), Grainne Gaynor(0-1), Edel Beirne(0-1), Emer Callaghan(0-2), Sarah McVeigh. Subs: Claire McGlynn, Shauna Murphy, Ruth Cox, Geraldine Farrell, Shauna Rogan, Lauren Bannaghan, Laura Beirne, Ann Marie Murphy,Amy Cousins.

While the girls will be disappointed, they should be very pleased with their efforts during the year. They reached the finals of both the league and championship, and were very unfortunate  that the little breaks that a team needs just didn’t go their way in the final. Many thanks to all the girls for their efforts during the year. Thanks to the management team of Noel Rogers, Pauline Conroy, and Ruth Cox. Thanks also to everyone who provided sponsorship for the girls, to Power&Rogers Agri Contractors, McGlynn Commercials, Noel Rogers(Painter & Decorating), and to Eugene Murphy TD who provided sponsorship towards the girls aftermatch meal.

34TH TARMONBARRY HALF MARATHON

Our half marathon and 8k fun run takes place on October 8th this year.

UNDERAGE:

Well done to our Under 10 girls, who performed so well during the half time exhibition during the Ladies County finals on Saturday last.
After a relatively inactive summer, our minor lads season will largely be decided this week by two games in three days. They face Kiltoom Thursday, and St Faithleach’s on Saturday, with a place in the Semi-finals still in their own hands. Good luck to the lads this week.
