The main event for next weekend is the Keenan’s Tarmonbarry sponsored Junior A Championship final, where the St Barry’s Ladies face St Mary’s (Tulsk) . The girls have had a good year so far, reaching the Junior League Final, and have remained unbeaten so far in the championship. The girls wish to acknowledge our sponsors P&R Agri, Noel Rogers (Painter), and McGlynn Commercial Repairs who have all sponsored playing gear for the girls on the big day, and Finbar Holmes & Sons Plant hire.

Throw in in Knockcroghery is at 1pm on Saturday. We hope to see lots of colour around the parish during the week, so put your flags out and show the girls you are behind them!

TARMONBARRY 34TH HALF MARATHON: The 34th edition of the Tarmonbarry Half Marathon & 8k RUN takes place on October 8th

St Barry’s bowed out of the Intermediate Championship, after a three point loss at the hands of St Dominic’s on Saturday last . The long trip to Ballyforan didn’t effect Barry’s early on, as playing into a strong wind they led by 5 points to 2 after 9 minutes. Dominic’s grew into the game, and scored the next 5 points, setting up an 8-6 lead at half time. Dominic’s had an explosive start to the second period, scoring 3 quick points straight after half time. St Barry’s got back into the game, and a long range Halpin point left the minimum between the sides after 43 minutes. However, we couldn’t just push on again in this crucial period of the game. In spite of creating a number of chances, we just couldn’t get level, and St Dominic’s closed out the game with a couple of late scores to progress to the Intermediate Championship quarter final.

ST BARRY’S: Tadgh Devlin, Barry Brennan, James Bennett Snr, Ray Rogers, Pauric Halpin(0-1), Ronan McGowan(0-1) , Philip Casserly, David Keenan(0-2), Jonathan Harte, James Bennett Jnr(0-1), Kyle Cawley, Diurmuid Walsh, Shane Carrington, John Murtagh(0-5,4 frees) Trevor Murtagh(0-2). Subs used: Nathan Beirne, Anthony McGowan, Alan Callaghan, Ciaran Casserly.

This ends the action for our Adult Men’s team for 2017. While there is disappointment this evening losing a game that could have went either way, the guys should be reasonably happy with the championship as a whole. They comfortably maintained out Intermediate status, blooded a number of young players, and on another day could have reached a championship Quarter final. Thanks to the Ray and his management team for all of the work done throughout the year.

On a happier note, congratulations to John Murtagh and his fiance Sarah on the birth of their son Fionn.
