Last Saturday evening was a good one on the field for the club, with good championship wins for both our Adult Ladies and Men’s teams.

Our Ladies qualified for the Keenan’s Tarmonbarry sponsored Junior A Championship final, with a hard fought win over a physically stronger Castlerea St Kevin’s in Enfield. St Barry’s started well, and aided by a well taken Edel Beirne goal, led by 1-3 to no score after 15 minutes. Castlerea then settled, and them getting their running game going, aided by an ability to draw frees, got them back into the game. Barry’s led by 1-4 to 0-4 at half time, and the trend of strong Castlerea running and scoring from frees continued. They took the lead with ten minutes to go, from their 8th pointed free. St Barry’s settled, and after Beirne equalised, our girls took the lead when good move ended with a well taken point from Emer Wallace . A late goal from Beirne finished the scoring, to leave a final score of St Barry’s 2-8 Castlerea 0-10.

The men recorded their first win in the Intermediate Championship, with a hard fought 1-16 to 0-13 win over Shannon Geals. St Barry’s stated well, and led throughout the first half, leading by 0-7 to 0-4 at half time. Barry’s good form continued in the second half, but Shannon Geals rallied after being reduced to 14 men. Geals closed the gap to 3 points, and had a goal from close range disallowed, before St Barry’s tacked on a couple of late points to secure an important win.
The lads face Kilbride in Round 4 on Saturday evening next @5.30pm in Ballyleague.
