It’s Finals Weekend

The biggest weekend in our club calendar arrives next weekend as our club county finals take place on Saturday in Knockcroghery. A spectacular day is in store as our Junior A, Intermediate and Senior finals take place at 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm respectively. Please come early to avoid parking delays and enjoy the day out as champions will be crowned and tears will be shed as the best of our talent will be on show for all to see. Here is the complete fixture list for finals weekend and a preview of each game will be covered elsewhere in this publication:

Kennan’s bar and restaurant Junior B final: Kilmore V Four Roads,

This promises to be a very interesting affair with nothing much to spare between the sides on paper. When they met in the second round of the group stages it was Four Roads who had the upper hand with a seven point victory but Kilmore romped the return game in round five by a whopping twenty point margin. Now it has to be said that Four roads were in the middle of their camogie campaign at that stage but that is to take nothing from what was a terrific Kilmore performance and indeed there is a trend there that Kilmore have diffidently being getting stronger as the group went on which is a good trend to have. Four Roads have been gathering momentum though since that defeat and finished the group strong and now with their full contention back they will prove to be a though obstacle to beat. However with the experience of losing last year’s decider fresh in their minds one has to slightly give the nod to the girls from the north.

Final Predication: Kilmore to prevail narrowly.

Kennan’s bar and restaurant Junior A final: St Mary’s V St Barry’s:

Impossible to call:

If you thought the Junior B decider was hard to call well this battle of the saints is almost impossible to call as both sides have shown tremendous form coming into the decider. Barry’s have probably shown the very slightly better form but just with their record shown five wins out of five to get here with the Tulsk girls winning four and drawn one so as you can see its nick and tuck. It must also be pointed out that they didn’t happen to meet yet this year as both were in different groups. So to be fair the two best teams are in the final and what a final it should be. They only small hint of know how might be the fact that the Tarman girls operated at a higher level than the Tulsk girls in the league, in fact they were only beaten in the final of the division 3 division league while St Mary’s were winning out Division four and that is the only reason the gods just might shine on Barry’s come 2.30pm on Saturday. But like I said it’s almost impossible to call and don’t be surprised if it need another day to sort it out.

Final Predication: a hesitant vote to Barry’s and it maybe even might be after a replay.

Hydrotech Water Supplies Intermediate Final: Western Gaels V Kilglass Gaels:

Can the Frenchpark girls finally get over the line?

Western Gaels are in yet another final but as the headline says can the finally get the job done and get over the finish line? The Roosky girls following their impressive semi-final victory over St Ciarans will be fancying their chances and truly there is not a lot to divide the teams. Kilglass pose a very effective midfield and forward division with the McHugh sisters in divesting form and the in form Nicola Tully on top form, but the Gaels are a strong physical outfit throughout backboned bay county stars Shannon Dowd, jenny Higgans and Martina Feirne.

Both Teams operated in division 1 of the league which was a big help to their championship preparations and both performed consistently in the group stages, perhaps it is worth nothing in their group match it was the Frenchpark girls who came out on top with a narrow two point victory so this shows there is not much between them as we can look forward to another cracker on Saturday. When also previewing this game one has to take into account the occasion of the final itself and the fact that nerves could play a part and the fact that Western Gaels have failed to get over the line on a number of occasions in the last few years, but maybe then again this just might be the time they get over that hurdle. Kilglass are hitting form at the right time though and their semi-final performance can’t be ignored. Again like the match that will proceed it this game may take another day to settle it I wouldn’t be surprised.

Final Predication: Draw

Abbey Hotel Senior final: Strokestown V Kilbride:
