U16 Update:

U16’s fall at final fence to strong Galway outfit after brave first half attempt:

Our Kildea Concrete, James Irwin Construction, XLnt signs, Flemings Supervalu sponsored U16’s put up a brave performance against a very fancied Galway team in the Connacht A Final on Friday last in Ballyhanus centre of excellence when in the end they were defeated heavily on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-03. The score line was a little harsh on the Rossies as with 25 minutes to go they only trailed by 7 points to 3, but once galway got a run on them in the last quarter there was no stopping them. A full match report appears elsewhere in this publication.

U14 Update:

U14 County Blitz (No subject)

The Roscommon County U14 team travelled to Rathleague Portlaoise on Saturday morning week last to take part in the All Ireland blitz.

They were drawn to play Wexford, Down and Westmeath, with the winner of the group proceeding to the division final.

Their first game was against Wexford and they played with a strong breeze in the first half, and built up a lead which they did not relinquished and emerged victorious on a score line of 5:7 to 1:0.

They turned around and played Down in the next game, and after a nervy first few minutes, they settled and gained the upper hand to win the game – 7:7 to 3:3

They then had a break before their last game, where they played Westmeath. Both teams went into this game with two wins each and the winner would progress to the final. Roscommon played with the breeze in the first half and built up a lead, but Westmeath in the second half found their feet and won on a score line of 2:4 to 3:4.

All the girls got playing in all games, the facilities were great and the blitz was well organised. The girls had a great day and the stop in Supermac’s on the way home was a nice way to round off the day.

Thanks to Paddy McTeague, Brian Lennon and Anne-Marie Hynes for travelling with the team and putting the girls out. Thanks to the parents who came up and supported the girls on the day also.
