Terrific entertainment at Finals Weekend
The big showcase weekend of our club finals did not disappoint last Friday in Kiltoom and on Saturday in Knockcroghery as our adult championships came to a head on county final weekend. A spectacular festival of talent was on display with the winners emerging to scenes of joy and jubilation with sadly the losers contemplating what might have and also making promises of another fight next year. Congratulations to our newly crowned and returning champions Kilbride in the senior, Western Gaels in the intermediate, who finally got over the line, St Marry’s in the Junior A who overcame a gallant st Barry’s and Four Roads who upset the odds in the Junior B. Commiserations to the gallant runners up Strokestown in the senior, Kilglass Gaels in the intermediate, St Barry’s in the Junior A and Kilmore in the junior B. the very best of luck to all our winners in the upcoming Connacht championships. A full detailed match report on each game appears elsewhere in this publication.

Finally, a massive thanks to the host clubs Kiltoom (St Brigids) and Knockcroghery (St Dominics) who provided and stewarded their facilities in such prestige condition for us and our players to showcase their talents. Not an easy task with the current weather conditions.

Colgan receives top award:
Massive congratulations this week goes to Roscommon U16 player Kelley Colgan of Clann nA nGael who was voted Connacht Ladies Football council young player of the year for 2017. A truly remarkable honor and achievement for Kelley and for her family, her club and her county. She becomes only the second ever recipient of the award for Roscommon since its inception and is the first ever recipient from her club. Kelley was a leading light as Roscommon reached the Connacht A final against Galway and all-Ireland semi-final against kildare this year staring at midfield and center forward. This award is also testimony to her hard work training and dedication over the last few years. Kelley receives her education in Our Ladys Bower Convent in Athlone where she won a Leinster Schools U14 title two years ago, she was also a member of the successful winning U14 and U16 B winning Connacht teams of the past two years with Roscommon and of course she was a member of the all concurring Clann na nGael U14 team which captured the National All-Ireland Feile title two years ago. The first ever by a Roscommon club. Congratulations once again to Kelley. I am sure we will see lots more of her in the future with her club and her county.

Development squads have a great day out:
As promised a small update on the recent provincial blitz’s held recently in the center of excellance in Ballyhanus:

Roscommon entered 2 teams(Blue +. Yellow) in the Connacht u15 development blitz that took place in the center of excellence, Ballyhaunis on Sunday last. Both teams played outstanding football in weather conditions more suitable for wind surfing. Mayo and Galway as usual fielded 2 very strong teams each. But our 2 teams showed no fear for either Mayo or Galway and won 2 games out of 3. This was an outstanding performance, every Roscommon girl showed massive work rate, passion and a great amount of skill. There were times It was hard to believe that those girls were still only 15. This was a very worthwhile journey and a big step in the development of Roscommon ladies underage football. Our next step is to bring n the 12 girls from this years county u16 team to join up with the 35 and continue the development. This panel of 47 very talented girls will know each other and have valuable training behind them when the u16 management team for 2018 is put in place. A big thanks to the county board for the lovely tops and for supplying the delicious hot food after the games. It went down well with everyone
